Floating to Safety
“I didn’t know that safety could be found on the side of a mountain.”
A mountain trail with her aunt, and learning what it feels like to be held.
Safety is not something we find outside ourselves ~ it is something we remember inside ourselves, often in the moment we finally stop trying to hold everything together and let something larger hold us instead.
- When did you last feel truly held ~ not managed, not maintained, but held ~ by a person, a place, or something greater than yourself?
- What would it take to let yourself be held like that again?

You don’t have to fight anymore.
Safety is not something we find outside ourselves ~ it is something we remember inside ourselves.
Healing begins quietly ~ softly ~ on days when no one is watching, when the earth itself steps in to help you breathe.
Let me add my presence to what the water is already doing.
The water held me so I didn’t have to.
And for the first time in a very long time ~ I wasn’t afraid of being held.
Through the kind of forest that breathes with you if you stop trying to breathe for it.
This teaching closes Passage Six of The Well Being of Water: Surrender to Self, a lyric memoir in thirteen passages by Amal Lana.
